As part of its standard to forge and maintain long-term, positive and proactive relationships with members of the local
community and greater water industry and to be transparent about its operations and programs, OCWD board members and staff
participate, regularly, speak before civic groups and at events. We participated in the following during September:
- Director Roger Yoh spoke to the Yorba Linda Sunrise Rotary regarding the District, the GWRS and current projects.
- Director Denis Bilodeau gave a presentation about the GWRS at the National Water Recycling & Reuse Technology 2015
Conference
in Melbourne, Australia.
- Engineer Ben Smith led an activity to teach middle school students about the GWRS during the International Desalination
Association World Congress Education Day in San Diego while staff distributed information about OCWD and the GWRS at a
booth.
- Principal Communications Specialist Gina Ayala spoke about the GWRS at the Saint-Gobain Performance Plastics Annual Environmental,
Health and Safety Day in Garden Grove.
- General Manager Mike Markus gave a presentation about the District, its facilities, water supplies, and the GWRS to members
of the Orange County Grand Jury.
- President Cathy Green gave a presentation, explaining the District's handling of the drought's effects, to a forum
on the topic, which was hosted by Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez in Santa Ana.
- Public Affairs Director Eleanor Torres spoke about water reuse terminology and outreach at the WateReuse Conference in
Seattle.
- General Manager Mike Markus participated in a panel titled "A Discussion of Innovative Recycle/Reuse Projects from
Around the World" at the International Desalination Association (IDA) World Congress 2015, which was held in San
Diego.
- Principal Process Specialist Tom Knoell presented at the International Desalination Association World Congress in San
Diego on the District's on-going efforts to identify suitable RO products and improve RO technologies for water
reuse.
- Engineer Ben Smith gave a presentation about public works facilities and urban policy to students of the California State
University, Long Beach MPA program.
- Adam Hutchinson participated in a panel discussion regarding alternative groundwater management plans at the
Groundwater Resources Association of California's conference on "Sustainable Groundwater Management-Time for A Change"
held in Modesto, Calif.
- Assistant General Manager Mike Wehner participated in a roundtable discussion hosted at the Resnick Institute entitled
"Water Resilience and Sustainability: Can We Make LA Water Self-Sufficient?"
